The HOP Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating and transporting passengers on a deviated fixed route. The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the functions outlined below. Management retains the discretion to add-to and/or change the duties of the position at any time, if necessary.
Wednesday 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thurs. Fri. 6:45 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. Sat. 4:45 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
Night HOP shift deferential After 10:00 p.m. Thr. Fri. Sat. $15.35/hr
Report to work on time, and in proper uniform, as outlined in the Vìa Policies and Procedures Manual.
Maintain a good attendance record.
Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as instructed by Operation Specialist or Training Coordinator and maintain accurate documentation.
Competently operate a passenger transportation vehicle. This includes managing spacing between other buses, staying on paddle and arriving at check points within specified parameters.
Maintain good rapport with the general public, providing assistance as needed. Model "HOP Courtesy" in all interactions with passengers.
Work collaboratively with dispatch, maintenance and operations support personnel to ensure smooth operation of Hop system.
Appropriately utilize trained safety skills for riders with disabilities and/or special needs.
Be responsible for proficiently and safely operating wheelchair lifts, tie-down systems, radios and special equipment on all HOP vehicles.
Complete daily rider count sheets, complete incident reports, and other paperwork as required. Use time clock consistently and complete time-off requests at least 2 weeks in advance.
Gain and maintain proficiency at safely operating wheelchair lifts and effectively using all tie-down systems, radios, and all special equipment on Via vehicles.
Responsible for cleanliness on both the inside and outside of the vehicle.
Must maintain a valid DOT medical card.
Must possess a valid Colorado State Commercial Driver License with a Passenger endorsement.
Must possess and be able to maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures.
Must have a reliable work history with strong attendance and punctuality records.
Must have a neat appearance and a sincere desire to work with all passengers and the general public.
Must subscribe to a "team approach" of working with fellow HOP team members.
Sit in driver's seat for long periods of time.
Use full range of sense of hearing including tone, pitch and volume when operating a transit vehicle, using two-way radio and assisting passengers and the public.
Use full range of sense of speech, including annunciation and projection, when using the two-way radio and when interacting with passengers and the public.
Use full range of sense of vision including depth perception, color vision and near/far acuity when operating a transit vehicle.
Use hands and fingers (manual dexterity) for vehicle controls and the handling of paperwork
Stoop when performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Crouch when performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Kneel when performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Bend at the knee, hip, and waist when operating vehicle, performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Twist at the knee and waist when operating vehicle, performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Reach forward, backward, upward and downward when operating vehicle, performing vehicle inspections and securing wheelchairs.
Stand while performing vehicle inspections and assisting passengers and the public.
Walk while performing vehicle inspections and assisting passengers and the public.
Be subject to wet, cold and/or hot environmental conditions.
Be subject to a low risk of injury due to vehicle accident, mechanical failure, fire and/or explosion.
Be subject to vehicle noise and vibration while operating a transit vehicle.
Be subject to vehicle exhaust, fumes, odors and road dusts.
Write reports in a coherent, legible manner.
Collect fares as appropriate.
Perform all tasks assigned when working as a floater, excluding those for which individuals may be physically unable.
Be available to accept extra shifts on occasions when staffing levels require support.
