Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Horticulture Supervisor, this position performsskilled or technical types of work associated with landscape maintenance withan emphasis on vehicle operation, vegetation watering and plant maintenance.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the safe operation aton to 2 ton truck with up to 1,000 gallon tank, operation of pumps andfire hydrants, maintenance and care of annuals, perennials, roses,shrubs, and trees. Best landscape management practices for pruning shrubs,installing and maintaining plants, is required. Technical skills in weedcontroJob RequirementsEducation:Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.Previous training and/or education in forestry and/or horticulture isdesirable.Experience:Any combination equivalent to one-year (1) skilled labor or professionaldriving experience that is inherent to landscape maintenance and/orinstallation, focusing on trees, shrubs, and flowers is preferred.A combination of experience and education may be considered.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government driving requirements andlaws,Knowledge of operations and activities relating to driving up to a 2 ton truckwith a 1,000 gallon water tank,Knowledge of operations and activities of a horticulture programKnowledge of work-place safety procedures and defensive driving techniques,Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle,Skill in the proper maintenance and care of horticulture plants,Skill in reading and understanding maps,Skill in the use of hand and power tools associated with landscapemaintenance,Skill in the safe and proper operation of snow plows and snow blowers,Ability to learn, understand and follow policies, procedures, and masterplan objectives for the District,Ability to learn, understand and follow the District's personnel policiesand procedures,Ability to understand the District's organization and operation structure asnecessary to carry out assigned responsibilities,Ability to learn, understand and meet water conservation principals whileproviding water to insure plant survival,Ability to successfully work productively, without supervision, withinestablished policies and procedures,Ability to adhere to safe work practices and procedures,Ability to regularly exercise sound judgment for daily operations,Ability to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, maps, and plans,Ability to adapt to changing priorities, weather events, and special workrequests,Ability to respond tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately tothe public, District administration, co-workers, and other agencies orcontractAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, andAbility to listen and follow directions/instructions from supervisory staff.This position is required to drive a District vehicle in order to perform theessential functions of the job. Driving is a requirement that includes acurrent, valid Colorado Driver's License or ability to obtain upon hire,and maintenance of a good driving record.Additional InformationForty-hour work week, Monday through Friday. Hours vary seasonally:6:30am 3:00pm or 7:00am 3:30pm. Occasionally there may be4-day, 10-hour work weeks. Work hours are subject to change, as needed,to complete work assignments.
