Transit Operator (Full Time)Duties:To operate a trolley, bus and/or minivans in transporting passengers; toensure compliance with safetyrequirements and regulations by performing minor maintenance and safety checkson buses; to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas ofresponsibility, and to provide a high level of customer service and publicrelations.1. Has ability to follow the City policies and other written instructions.2. Ensures compliance of the transit system with FTA regulations, State andCity policies in a day to dayaspects of the transit operation.3. Reports all unusual circumstances to management.4. Assists passengers requiring special assistance, including operatingwheelchair lifts and restraints.5. Performs a variety of tasks as assigned by Lead Drivers and TransitOperations Manager.6. Provides a high level of customer service and public relations at alltimes.7. Operates trolleys, buses, and minivans to transport passengers,including ADA-qualified passengersaccording to federal regulations.8. Performs light maintenance and safety checks on the vehicles as required byD.O.T.9. Must be familiar and able to operate tablets and other technologicalequipment onboard buses.10. Performs pre-trip and post-trip safety and maintenance checks onvehicles; identifies defects anddocument on the appropriate form.11. Uses a two-way radio following proper procedures.12. Ensures cleanliness and safety of bus throughout the shift, and washestransit fleet as assigned bymanagement.13. Drives vehicle on designated route according to established time scheduleusing defensive drivingtechniques.14. Records information on the number and type of passengers, fuel,mileage and related information.15. Ensures smooth transfers between routes by communicating with thedispatcher and other drivers.16. Participates in on-going training.Other Duties:1. Administers first aid or CPR, as necessary.2. Knowledge ofcity street locations.Work Environment:Field environment; exposure to gas and fumes, all types of weatherconditions and night driving. On a normal workday, the operator will facesafety-related concerns such as traffic, passengers, weather and pedestrians.Physical Activities:Essential and marginal functions include maintaining physical conditionnecessary for sitting, standing,stooping or bending for prolonged periods of time; operating motorizedvehicles; moderate to heavy lifting.Maneuve
