In this exciting and challenging position you serve as the Superintendent of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. The incumbent directs the overall operation under full delegated authority for all phases of park operations. Provides management direction and oversight for the management of cultural and natural resources; planning, construction and maintenance of facilities; visitor and resource protection services; interpretive/educational outreach operations; administrative functions and cooperative relations with local/federal/regional tribal governments and citizens' groups. Manage park activities to insure maximum use of personnel, materials and funds so that the parks' cultural and natural resources are protected and preserved while ensuring visitor enjoyment. Provide long-term vision as well as leadership, motivation, inspiration and follow through to staff, volunteers, partners and the public.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel 3-5 nights a month for this position.

Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience could include, but are not limited to , the following: management, assistant or program specialist work involving development and implementation of complex, controversial, and/or sensitive policy related to protection and conservation of park areas or similar operations; directs programs and work through direct and indirect supervision. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in level of difficulty and to that of at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
Physical Demands: Work is mostly sedentary. Field inspection of park resources and facilities requires standing, climbing, hiking over trails and rough terrain.
Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors in an office setting, with occasional field inspections subject to inclement weather, extreme temperatures and terrain variances.
