Salary$24.10 - $30.74 Hourly LocationFC 614 E Vine, COJob TypeRegularDepartmentFleetJob Number202100150 OverviewThe Heavy Equipment Mechanic position performs a wide range of repairs toconstruction equipment, heavy and medium duty trucks. ResponsibilitiesSpecifically, this position:Troubleshoots, repairs, and checks county vehicles and motorized equipment.Performs general overhaul, tune-up, and repairs work on automobiles,light and heavy-duty trucks, and heavy and light equipment.Repairs and overhauls hydraulic and air brakes, ignition systems,transmissions, differentials, and front and rear axle assemblies;repairs and installs hydraulic pumps and controls; inspects, repairs,overhauls and assembles electrical equipment such as alternators,distributors, magnetos, starters, and computer equipment.Performs field or shop inspections of heavy and light equipment to determinerepair needs and estimate cost of repairs; makes field repairs when possible.Performs lubricating and servicing of heavy and light equipment.Removes and replaces carburetors, fuel injection components and fuelpumps, cooling system, emissions, and exhaust components; relineslight and heavy-duty brakes.Acts as a resource or expert in program area providing technical guidance toless experienced staff.Completes all necessary paperwork related to job assignments and time cards.Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and safe condition;responsible for reporting unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor.Compliant with DOT Standards.To view the full job description, click .The ideal candidate will:Have experience with electronic work orders.Apply knowledge to complete a broad range of repair and maintenance functionsas assigned.Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies andstandard operating procedures.Have knowledge of hydraulic pumps, controls, and related systems.Have knowledge of electronic control systems (engine management,transmission, hydraulics).Be able to properly use of hand tools, shop equipment, and sophisticateddiagnostic equipment.Understand and utilize accepted industry standards and practices for qualityand safety.Have knowledge of general operating principles of light automotive and heavyconstruction equipment.Have a positive attitude and desire to perform quality work.Be able to drive to various sites within Larimer County and service equipmentas needed.Be able to work in inclement weather conditions while repairing equipment. QualificationsThree (3) years of experience in a directly related field or in theperformance of similar duties and responsibilities required with a strongbackground in electrical and computerized system troubleshooting,diagnosis, and repair.High School diploma or GED required, supplemented by specialized mechanicaltraining required.Possession of and ability to maintain a Class " B " CDL. at the discretionof the Fleet Director, depending upon necessity and position required.Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six months, at least twoAutomotive Institute of Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automotive orHeavy Truck required.
