Description of Job

Responsible for general trails maintenance and construction, too include an extended trail corridor. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Management of noxious weeds (herbicide spraying, mechanical removal, mowing or weed-whacking, etc.), operation of various power trimmers, operation of chainsaws and wood chippers, basic forestry (pruning, limbing, bucking of downed trees, felling), fence installation and maintenance.

  • Performs trail maintenance and construction of natural surface single track trails, and maintenance of natural surface double track trail which includes the use of the following tools: shovel, rake, McLeod, Pulaski, Austin, sledgehammer, half-jack, framing hammer, rock chisel, rock bar, weed whip, power saws, power drill, hand drill, hand saw, pruner, lopper, shear, post hole digger, wheelbarrow, paint brush, ATV, UTV, bicycle, trucks.

  • Supervises volunteers and/or youth crew members.

  • Performs maintenance and repairs on all tools and equipment that is used.

  • Completes a daily log.

  • Communicates professionally on state-owned radios

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

  • If position requires operation of a motorized vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.

  • Willing to work outside, sometimes in inclement weather.

  • Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday.

  • Knowledge of power tools and hand tools preferred.

  • Knowledge of small engine and other equipment maintenance and repair preferred.

  • First Aid and CPR certifications may be required.

  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.

  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to nine months in duration.

  • Schools schedules can be accommodated.

  • The park may provide some uniform items, however, employee may be required to purchase some items at their own expense.


This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
