District 49 Transportation School Bus Driver in Peyton, Colorado

POSITION SUMMARY: The bus driver has the primary responsibility for ensuringthe health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteersduring bus transportation to and from school, sporting events and on fieldtrips while adhering to a strict time schedule. It is also the role of the busdriver to: guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working conditionat all times; follow safe and efficient bus routes; ensure all childrenare in age appropriate child safety securements; assist in ensuringchild/staff ratio is maintained on the bus and provide day to day guidanceto the bus paraprofessional; maintain all transportation records required bythe transportation department; ensure bus evacuation drills are held;and, evacuate children in case of emergency.NOTE: This position is subject to alcohol and drug testing prior to hire,post-accident, for reasonable suspicion and random testing.ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIESThe following statements of essential functions and responsibilities areintended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed byindividuals assigned to this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may varydepending on building assignment and other factors. Operates vehicle over designated route or trip while monitoringsurroundings and passengers. Ensures the safety and well-being of children,staff and volunteers being transported. Picks up and drops off students atregularly scheduled locations, following strict time schedules. Ensures students use assigned bus pass when entering and exiting the bus. Performs pre and post-trip inspection requirements for safety andmaintenance on buses and district vehicles per Colorado Department ofEducation and Commercial Driver's License compliance section. Performs bus evacuation drills and documents completion of all drills inwriting. In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according towritten and practiced procedures. In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency proceduresare followed; informsTransportation administration and completes a written accident report asrequired. Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus(e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenanceand/or repair facilities. Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel, and follows fuelingprocedures. Ensures that the communication device (e.g. two-way radio) is inproper working order before each trip. Follows efficient and safe written bus routes. Provides input to thetransportation router if a route needs tobe changed or altered. Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are alwaysfollowed; reports any trafficviolations. With the assistance of the bus paraprofessional, ensures all childrenare in age appropriate child safety securements at all times duringtransportation. Assists with ensuring child/staff ratios are maintained on the bus andprovides day to day guidance to thebus paraprofessional. With the assistance of the bus paraprofessional, follows safe busloading and unloading procedures. Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on bus withoutadult supervision at any time, including insuring all children have departedbus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and duringfield trips or other special trips). Keeps the bus clean (interior and exterior) and free of debris;follows other bus cleaning procedures. Routinely inspects bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment;reports needs as necessary. With the assistance of the bus paraprofessional, delivers messages andother items to and from the parents. Operates equipment including wheelchair lifts, securements, and safetyvests. Prepares daily mileage sheets, number of students, hours worked,repair orders, log sheets and trip sheets. Works as a team on a dai
