Area of Interest - OperationsSalary/Hourly - HourlyGeneral SummaryTruck Driver is responsible for the operation of commercial vehicles in excessof 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight, to deliver goods to customers andoperations, and to pick up material from vendors and other operations. Worksunder indirect supervision; relies on instructions and pre-establishedguidelinPrincipal Duties/ResponsibilitiesSafely drives on the road delivering products in various weather conditionsCompletes pre-trip and post-trip inspection sheetsInspects equipment to ensure safe operating conditions -- checks oil and fuelprior to leaving the yardSecures load and/or inspects load to ensure is been properly securedPerforms duties consistent with all applicable safety, DOT and Company rulesConducts preventive maintenance to truck and ensures truck is cleanMaintains appropriate driving records, logs, and shipping documents asrequiredMaintains radio/telephone and EOB (Electronic On-Board System) contactwith base or supervisor to receive instructions or to be dispatched to newlocaVerifies shipping documents for accuracy, and obtains customer's signatureon paperwork upon deliveryCompletes paperwork as requiredMay operate a forklift to load/unload trailers as requiredFollows forklift rules and policies as described by Company policyCompletes training as required by managementParticipates in safety, CI and other programs and meetingsPerforms other duties as requiredRequirementsKnowledgeMust be 21 years of age (company policy)Minimum 12th grade basic education completedMinimum 1 year of experience driving a commercial vehicle in excess of26,000 lbs. Preferable 3 to 5 years of experience driving a commercial vehicleWorking knowledge of vehicle parts, and how to handle minor repairs toensure equipment is in proper operating conditionsRequired to have a valid Class A Commercial Drivers LicenseSuccessful completion of forklift driver licensing processSkills and AbilitiesAbility to pass a written and driving test on DOT rules and regulationsAbility to pass a physical examination (DOT required)Ability to operate an electronic board systemAbility to block, brace/strap and tie down/secure cargo fortransportation and to tarp loadAbility to determine if vehicle is properly loaded and if weight cargo isadequateAbility to drive and perform duties in a safe mannerAbility to identify equipment malfunctions and determine safe operation of thevehicleProficient in the use of English language in reading, writing and speakingAbility to work in a wide range of weather conditionsAbility to interact with co-workers, customers and vendorsGood understanding of efficiencies and productivity measuresAbility to pass a drug testAbility to work hours mandated by managementConductMust not have any DOT recordable accidents in the past three yearsSafety consciousTeam player and goal orientedLeads by example and positive attitudeGood communicator, customer service oriented and problem solverLooks for ways to improve productivity and department resultsUniversal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
